How to accept UPI payments for event tickets, straight to your bank account
Take UPI payments for your event without a payment gateway: attendees pay your UPI ID, you confirm with one tap, and passes go out on WhatsApp. Here’s how it works.
UPI is how most people in India pay. For event tickets it has one big advantage: the money goes straight to your own bank account, and there’s no payment gateway to apply for.
How it works on My Event Booker
- You add your UPI ID in Payments.
- An attendee chooses passes and pays. They see your UPI ID and a QR code, and on a phone they can open their UPI app with one tap.
- Each payment gets its own amount, a few paise above the price (like ₹499.37), so you can tell payments apart in your bank app.
- The attendee taps “I’ve paid”, and you get an alert with a sound on your phone.
- You check the payment in your bank or UPI app and confirm it with one tap. The pass goes to their WhatsApp straight away.
Busy night? Confirm many payments at once
Download your bank or UPI statement as a CSV file and upload it. Each payment that matches a booking (the exact amount, paid after the booking was made, with a transaction reference (UTR) not used before) is confirmed together with the others. You only check the few that don’t match.
Passes are held while people pay
When someone starts paying, their passes are held for 15 minutes so nobody else takes them. Once they tap “I’ve paid”, the hold stays until you confirm or reject the payment. If they never pay, the passes go back on sale.
UPI direct or online checkout?
- UPI direct: no gateway and no paperwork, with the money straight to your account. You confirm each payment, or upload a statement.
- Online checkout with your own Razorpay account: UPI, cards and net banking, confirmed automatically, with passes sent instantly. Good for big events, or when you can’t watch every payment.
You can use both. Many organizers start with UPI direct and add online checkout as they grow.
What it costs
There’s no setup fee and no monthly fee. A 5% platform fee applies to each confirmed paid booking; for UPI direct payments it’s billed to you monthly. Cash and free passes you record carry no fee.
Good habits
- Use a UPI ID linked to the account you check most, and keep your bank app’s notifications on.
- Confirm payments quickly, especially on event days: people are waiting for their pass.
- Never confirm a payment you can’t see in your own bank app. A screenshot of a payment is not proof.
- Keep your bank app open at the gate on event nights for last-minute bookings.
Do I need a business account?
No. You can start with the UPI ID you already have. Many organizers use a separate account for the event so the money is easy to track.
Is UPI direct safe for attendees?
Yes. They pay you in their own UPI app, and their pass is sent only after you confirm the payment has arrived.
